My name is Kevin Tirado and I come from the Vineland Corps in the New Jersey Division. I was born into a Christian family and all my life I was taught to attend church. Though we seemed like a perfect family, we had our problems.
My brother and I were brought up in an abusive environment, but God had plans for us. God took control of our family situation and helped us through the chaos. At the age of 10 my family decided to move to the United States; there we were introduced to the Salvation Army. As I started attending the corps I became more involved with the youth programs, and soon after had an encounter with God. When I had that experience with God, I fell completely in love with The Lord.
After that amazing encounter there was (and still is) a burning passion for God. I started to become active at the Corps, and by the age of 15 I became the youth leader of the corps youth ministry. Everything was going great and I found myself in a comfort zone, but little did I know that God had a plan for me. In 2009 my corps officer signed me up for a youth holiness advance weekend at Camp Ladore. In the weekend some Railton students (youth-workers in training, some of which are now my classmates) had video presentations about some important individuals in the Salvation Army. As the videos played, I felt God calling me to do the same as the people that were presented in the videos, to be a Salvation Army officer. Months after, my calling was later confirmed in a holiness meeting at my corps.
I am very thankful for what God has done in my life, and for what he will continue to do. I am happy to say I am a "Herald of Grace" of the 2013-2015 session. " For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 NIV.
