I grew up with divorced parents. They divorced when I was around five years old. I remember it being difficult for me but I went on to live a pretty normal life. I lived with my mom and stepdad. I played sports and rode motorcycles. Growing up we didn’t go to church regularly. My teen years were filled with some anger and always feeling lost. I really felt alone. It seemed like I was searching for the love and approval of my father.
After High School I joined the Navy, maybe trying to find my way in life. After my four years of service I returned home and started to date someone that would show me what it meant to be a true believer. That would be my wife. For the first time in my life I was attending church every Sunday. As I learned more about the Lord I found myself seeking his will for my life. One Sunday evening my wife and I were at home and I gave my life to Jesus, believe it or not after an episode of “Touched By An Angel.” I realized that night it was a different father I needed, it was my Heavenly Father.
Over the years I’ve learned that God delivers. My walk with the Lord is getting stronger and stronger every day. As I let go of trying to control my own life and asking God to control my life, He has delivered. Psalm 34:4 says “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.” Today I walk with peace and joy in my heart. As I take the next step on this journey I have no doubt God will continue to deliver.
